What exactly is energy efficiency?

Energy efficiency is simply using less energy to provide the same level of energy service.

Using less energy lowers costs and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Is energy efficiency just about switching to CFLs, using efficient appliances and installing insulation?

These are great ways to save energy, but there are many more ways that households and businesses can become more energy efficient.

What are other countries doing about energy efficiency?

Many industrialised and developing countries around the world are supporting energy efficiency measures because they understand that saving energy results in reduced energy costs and reduced carbon emissions. Shining examples include California, USA, where its citizens use about 40% less electricity than other Americans. In Chile, energy efficiency measures are forecast to reduce business energy demands by 20% by 2020, and in Ghana, a CFL light bulb exchange program cut peak demand by 5% while also reducing electricity bills for its citizens.
